Cheers to Arthur – Guinness Celebrates 250th Anniversary

Beer is making headlines, again. Today, at 17:59 (GMT) on the dot, Guinness fans from all over the world raised their glasses and gave a joint toast to Arthur. The Irish brew, one of the world’s most famous beer brands, celebrates its 250th anniversary today.

Back in 1759 (hence the toast at 17:59), a lad by the name of Arthur Guinness put a 9,000 (nine thousand) year lease on a brewery at St. James Gate in Dublin, Ireland, which is where the dark stout with the famous thick and creamy head was first created. And if you ever wondered how that head gets its consistency that marks your nose with a white, foamy tip each time it makes a dive for a taste during the first couple of sips, it’s because Nitrogen is added to the mix as the beer is poured into the traditional tulip-shaped glass.

Have a lookout for local Irish pubs, as they will most likely be celebrating this occasion. And don’t forget to raise your glass and cheers to Arthur!
