Twitter Trivia Contest Update: And the Winner is …

This past weekend we launched our very first Twitter Trivia Contest: NYC Hotel Edition. Thanks to all the twitter folks who participated and followed my tweets as I roamed the streets of the Big Apple.

Foursquare was great fun, allowing me to check-in to various locations in New York as it auto-detected my location on my cellular phone with their easy to use application. Simply an amazing feature! The  best part of all is that it automatically tweeted my location and check-ins on to twitter that provided clues to all the folks on twitter who were following this contest! Gotta love Social Media!

Now to the winner of this short but sweet Twitter Trivia Contest: Congratulations to @dollyflake for guessing the correct hotel name where this lobby picture was taken! You are the winner and will receive a $20 hotel gift card for your next booking on 1800hotels.com.

This picture was in fact taken at the ever popular 4-Star Marriott Marquis located in the heart of Times Square – a hotel I’d recommend to anyone wishing to stay in the hustle and bustle of this wonderful city.

In case you missed this contest – not to worry! Stay tuned for more fun trivia and promotional contests for your chance to win hotel gift cards and more!

What’s Hot and Happening This Summer in New York City

Summer in the city: Window shopping down Fifth Avenue, sundresses and $5 sunglasses near Central Park, $2.25 ride on the train to cool things down and a $1 scoop of coconut ice from a cart pushed by a small elderly woman. What better place to be? There is not one day that passes where something is going on in New York City – whether it be the B-Boys by NYU or the following events, it’s all waiting for you.

Held every June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, the Belmont Stakes is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, following five weeks after the Kentucky Derby, and three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. Because of its distance and status as the race that can make or break a Triple Crown champion, the Belmont Stakes has been the venue for some of the most famous moments in American racing. Puerto Rican Day Parade: June 13th
Red, white and blue attire flooding the streets as “Que Bonita Bandera” is blaring from every store/fritter stand and any audible player. This sets up the scene for none other than the Puerto Rican Day Parade. The first parade was held on Sunday, April 13, 1958, in Manhattan, replacing the former Hispanic Day Parade. In 1995, the parade became incorporated as the National Puerto Rican Day Parade and expanded beyond the parade itself. The parade now hosts over seven major events throughout the city. The parade begins at 11 am running until 6 pm, marching along Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 86th Street and includes delegates from various towns of Puerto Rico and U.S. states across the country. Those that have participated in the spectacular parade are Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Elvis Crespo, Marc Anthony and many other notable Puerto Ricans.

Lesbian and Gay Pride Week: June 19-27
Celebrate Gay Pride (June 19 to June 27, 2010) to honor what many consider to be one of the primary events in the history of lesbian and gay rights, the Stonewall Riots, which commenced June 28, 1969. In New York City, Pride celebrations center around five events: The Rally, PRIDEfest,The March, the Dance on the Pier, and Rapture on the River. The events all take place in the West Village, very close to the city’s other gay-popular neighborhoods like Chelsea and the East Village.

– The Pride Rally (6/19) takes place at Bryant Park

– RAPTURE: A Women’s Dance (6/26): occurs at Pier 54 featuring the music from top DJs, starts at 6 pm on and lasts until 11 pm.

– The March (6/27): Now in its 41st year, commences at noon on at 5th Avenue and 52nd Street and winds its way downtown to the intersection of Christopher and Greenwich streets. This is perhaps the must-see event of Gay Pride in New York City, drawing thousands of spectators.

– PRIDEfest (6/27): Held from 11 am until 7 pm along Hudson Street between Abingdon Square and W. 14th St.. The festive (and free) GLBT street fair features dozens of vendors, entertainers, and community organizations.

– The Dance on the Pier (6/27): Provides a grand finale for New York City Gay Pride. Thousands of GLBT revelers and friends congregate on Pier 54 (13th St. at the Hudson River) following the Pride March until a massive fireworks show at 10:30 pm. It’s one of the great gay Manhattan parties of the year.
